The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives on Thursday said the bird flu outbreak in all the affected districts had been brought under control.
Kaski, Tanahu, Rupendehi, Chitwan and Banke districts had been declared as being affected by the H5N9 virus.
The government has so far destroyed 12,027 fowl, 2,233 eggs, 1,616 kg of birdfeed and 145 kg of meat in different districts, the Agriculture Ministry said.
On Feb. 3, bird flu was detected in Gharipatan, Pokhara. Pokhara and its neighbourhoods have been on high alert since Jan. 4 against the disease.
The Agriculture Ministry said that about 429 fowl had been culled in Buddhachowk, Khaupadi, Lampatan, Pame, Birauta and Belchautara of Kaski district.
Similarly, 845 birds had been culled in Tanahu district, 145 in Gagangauda, 78 in Damauli and 622 in Bhimadama. The ministry said that the culling started on Feb. 7 and was completed on Feb. 19.
Likewise, 358 birds and 60 eggs have been destroyed in Dudraksa, Rupendehi and 178 birds have been culled in Chainpur, Chitwan.
A rapid response team sent to Phattepur, Phooltekara and Kohalpur in Banke district destroyed 343 birds and 251 eggs.
The government has been paying a compensation of Rs. 100 per chicken, Rs. 50 per 1 kg of meat and Rs. 0.50 per egg.
Agriculture Ministry spokesperson Hari Dahal said that the government had paid a total of Rs. 1.21 million in compensation out of which Rs. 993,000 was paid in Kaski.
"The bird flu outbreak has been brought under control, but it has
not been eradicated," he added.
He said that it was an international problem that had affected more than 65 countries.
